Unlocking the Beauty of Expensive Honey Blonde: Tips, Trends, and Care
Unlocking the Beauty of Expensive Honey Blonde: Tips, Trends, and Care
The Expensive honey blonde hair colour trend has us stopping in our tracks! A perfect new honey blond shade  has caught our eye and we are about to give you the full rundown all about it. We will cover everything from what it is and how it looks SO good, how to ask for it in a salon, hair care routine and all the products that will keep your colour and hair healthy. What is an Expensive Honey Blonde? Expensive honey is a warm blonde hair colour trend that looks and feels expensive. This is the perfect shade of blonde, It’s warm yet bright, light but not heavily bleached looking. Think Blake Lively in her gossip girl era with her bright honey hair! It’s the perfect balance of healthy hair and healthy colour, which is what we are all about at Que Colour.  How can I achieve an expensive Honey Blonde? Finding the right colourist for you is essential, this look can be achievable for everyone with the right colourist! Consultations are important to communicate with your stylist to define and agree on a plan to achieve your look. Achieving this colour has more factors than you think. To keep your colour lasting and hair healthy to maintain the colour, regular haircuts and quality products will be your best friend!  Is the Expensive Honey Blonde colour high maintenance? This Expensive Honey blonde colour is lower maintenance at the salon but higher maintenance at home. You can always get away with more regrowth and time between visits BUT you must be using the best home hair care and have regular smaller treatments to keep the hair as shiny as possible for that expensive feeling. Visiting the salon regularly for trims and haircuts is essential (split ends is not the vibe). Investing in good quality products to help with keeping your colour healthy and glossy is also extremely important. When it comes to regrowth, it will be different for everyone but generally you can expect 10-12 weeks for a full colour top up with a half head colour every 5-6 weeks for minimal regrowth.  What to ask for in a salon For this colour we would recommend asking for warm sun kissed tones but not brassy. Think Werther's original caramel not caramello koala. You can also ask to add in some soft vanilla pieces to balance with the honey tones so it doesn't look yellow, soft natural placed foils over lots of heavy bleach foils. As with any hair service, to ensure 100% satisfaction with your hair, bring along 3-4 independently selected pictures or videos with you to show your stylist. This helps to create a benchmark and a creative visual of what you love. It also helps to give us a broader visual of things you maybe don’t like about one style but do about the other. This helps us be realistic about any modifications that you may need to suit your hair in real life. It’s important to remember here that this contrast in lightness is different on the screen to real life, so we can always opt for a more subtle change first that can then be built on in time.  What photos can I reference to get an Expensive Honey Blonde? We have so many different reference photos for you to show to your stylist for the expensive honey blonde colour, here are some of our faves! Matilda Djerf - @matildadjerf Blake Lively - @blakelively Sydney Sweeney - @sydney_sweeney Claudia Schaffer in the 90s - @claudiaschiffer Kiana Flanet - @kiana.flanet Margarita - @m4rgar1ta What skin tones best suit Honey Blonde? A warm blonde shade, like the expensive honey blonde suits warm sun kissed toned skin, while tones like ash blonde, go better with cool-toned skin, however, this hair colour can be universally flattering. Expensive honey blonde goes amazing with light eyes, it really accentuates them to make them pop. I’m Blonde - WHAT NOW? There are a few things to factor when keeping your hair and colour healthy. Looking after your hair at home is just as important as regular appointments at a salon. This colour looks SO good because it relies on the health of your hair, healthy hair reflects more light and creates that beautiful glow. We always recommend a treatment at the end of your service to finish with a shine. A few of our faves here at Que Colour to keep your hair healthy and colour vibrant are the Sebastian Cellophanes colourshine treatments, the Christophe Robin colour cleansing mask and the Christophe Robin Golden Blonde shade variation mask. At Que we offer a service called a Colourshine. Free from ammonia, alcohol and peroxide, Sebastian Cellophanes are a “hair-friendly” colour gloss. As well as heightening the reflectivity of each strand, Cellophanes strengthen hair, preserves natural moisture balance and protects against UV. Now, glossy, translucent colour means stronger, healthier-looking hair. These are accessible, quick treatments that you can find at most hair salons! And the best part is it is an affordable way to get a celebrity-worthy shine. To keep this shine we recommend getting a colourshine every 6 - 8 weeks! Colour shield cleansing Mask  is an essential product for any coloured hair.  It is a gently low-foaming cleansing mask that is expertly created to help prolong the vibrancy of colour treated hair, respects hair’s natural precious oils so lengths feel intensely nourished with a glossy, long-lasting radiance. This mask envelopes your hair in an egg white like consistency and leaves are soft as silk.   The Golden blonde shade variation mask is a pigmented hair mask that provides hair colour treatments to neutralise unwanted tones or to enhance your natural hair colour. This buttery toned colour correcting mask corrects dull, transparent blonde tones to boost and restore pure, radiant colour. It is filled with apricot extracts, nourishing buriti oil and creamy almond butters. This is such a quick and easy way to extend the life of your colour at home between salon treatments with a 5–20-minute hair toner mask treatment.   Our team here at Que Colour can’t get enough of this colour! Regrowth Hair Colour Tips: Maintaining a Natural Look and Healthy Roots
Regrowth Hair Colour Tips: Maintaining a Natural Look and Healthy Roots
Regrowth Hair Colour Tips: Maintaining a Natural Look and Healthy Roots This blog will cover all the best tips and tricks of maintaining a healthy, natural regrowth hair colour. Stay ahead of the trend while we take you on a deep dive of all things regrowth. We’re going to break down exactly what regrowth colour is, what services to get, how to ask for it at your hair salon and the products that will keep your colour long lasting and your scalp super healthy. What is regrowth and why do we get it? Regrowth colour is when the roots are tinted to match the colour of your mid length and ends of your hair, to subtly blend your roots to the rest of your hair colour. When colouring and maintaining your regrowth it is crucial to have products that will keep your colour lasting and fresh.  We tend to see the greys around the 4 week mark. Monique McMahon from Que Colour says, “The age your hair turns grey is largely hereditary but this is not the only cause. Stress and worry is a big contender, especially if there has been a sudden shock or devastating life crisis. If you’ve undergone treatment for a major illness and had hair loss along the way I’ve had clients in my chair whose hair grew back grey.”  So you have started to get your first grey hairs, what now? There are a few options to discuss here depending on the natural state of your hair and what you would like to achieve. If you have blonde hair, doing full head foils and going blonde to hide greys is always the best idea. If you are brunette you can do partline foils with tint semi permanent colour or a regrowth application. When having a service that includes foils with some permanent tint in between the foils do not need to be every appointment. This will improve your hair health and help to minimise the amount of bleach applied to your hair. If you're not wanting too much colour, a good option could be the Demi Permanent colour from Wella which has more grey coverage as it blends the greys and is less permanent. While using the Demi permanent colour from wella making a transition to permanent tint regrowth can be smoother. How often should I get my regrowth coloured? At Que Colour, we recommend doing a regrowth service every 4-6 weeks then getting foils every 12 weeks. Generally two regrowth appointments then a foil appointment would be ideal. We can always alternate this service with having freehand painting added or partline foils which extends the life of the colour while also keeping your hair health intact! This means less time in the chair at each visit so it's not so overwhelming. How can I ask my colourist to keep my regrowth hair colour looking natural  We love to keep a natural finish and natural looking hair can mean something different to everyone. To avoid confusion remember to take at least 3 reference photos to your hairstylist. This will help leave no room for error when making the change! It’s important to remember here that this contrast in lightness is different on the screen to real life, so we always opt for a more subtle change first that can then be built on. How do I keep my scalp healthy using permanent colour To keep a healthy scalp when using permanent colour we have broken it down to two of our favourite products. We would recommend to keep a healthy scalp when getting regular colour would be the Everything Spray by ANTI and the cleansing scrub with sea salt by Christophe Robin. We would highly recommend the Cleansing scrub with sea salt by Christophe Robin to everyone, especially for those with oily hair. This product is a deep cleansing shampoo scrub. It is perfect as a detox or post-colouring treatment to invigorate hair and sensitive or oily scalps so they feel immediately rebalanced and purified. How can I extend the life of my colour at home ? To extend the life of your colour at home a good shampoo and conditioner combo is essential.  The Colour shield shampoo with camu-camu berries by Christophe Robin is perfect for bleached, highlighted or coloured hair. This gently cleansing shampoo is expertly created to help lock in colour radiance for longer to protect it from fading so it has a lasting lustrous, glossy and freshly coloured look. Colour shield cleansing Mask  is an essential product for any coloured hair. This gently low-foaming cleansing mask is expertly created to help prolong the vibrancy of colour treated hair, respects hair’s natural precious oils so lengths feel intensely nourished with a glossy, long-lasting radiance. Christophe Robin’s Shade Variation Masks are pigmented hair masks that provide hair colour treatments to neutralise unwanted tones or to enhance your natural hair colour. There are 5 shades to choose from, including Baby Blonde, Chic Copper, Warm Chestnut, Golden Blonde and Ash Brown. This is such a quick and easy way to extend the life of your colour at home between salon treatments with a 5–20-minute hair toner mask treatment. The GHD bodyguard heat protectant shields your hair against the heat of straighteners, tongs, wands and hair dryers with ghd Heat Protect Spray. This thermal protectant creates an invisible barrier on the hair, defending against heat damage and creating a smoother, shinier finish. With a lightweight texture, it can easily be layered underneath other styling products for your perfect customised finish. What if I have a special occasion and need to cover my regrowth fast? Needing to hide your regrowth fast, no problem we have you covered with one of our favourite products!   Disguise grey hair and blend your roots into your colour with Wella Insta Recharge. This densely pigmented mineral powder isn’t quite the same as a visit to the salon, but it’s pretty close. We hope this blog inspired and educated you to understand everything there is to know about getting your regrowth done while keeping healthy hair. Latte Hair Colour - The Newest Hair Colour Trend
Latte Hair Colour - The Newest Hair Colour Trend
Latte Hair Colour - The Newest Hair Colour Trend So… What is Latte Hair Colour ?  The latest trend to hit QUE colour’s salon in Sydney, is the ‘Latte hair colour’. Inspired by the viral Latte Makeup trend currently doing the rounds on TikTok, this is all about subtle, glossy, effortless hair with rich latte, bronze, biscuit tones that compliment your natural complexion with a beautiful almost unbelievable shine. If you are wanting a more natural hair colour and flawless look this is the perfect colour for you to try this season. Stay ahead of the trend while we taking you on a deep dive of all things Latte. We’re going to break down exactly what it is, who suits the Latte hair colour look, how to ask for it at your hair salon and the products that will keep your hair super shiny and glazed. What is Latte Hair Colour?  The Latte hair colour look evolved from the popular ‘Latte Makeup’ trend that went viral on TikTok recently. We are honestly in love with this trend as it optimises hair health as well as having a flawless natural looking shine similar to our glazed looks.      Monique McMahon from Que colour says, “Latte hair” is all about it’s particular colour scheme. In a nod to maroon-coloured lattes, this unique beauty look relies on a mix of bronzy, cream and caramel colours. In short, warm, shimmering tones enhance the complexion with subtlety, because this is the ultimate advantage of ‘latte hair’ to elevate, while remaining discreet. Who Does it Suit? This look is not only universal but timeless, made for both warm summer nights and golden hour on those perfect winter afternoons…  honestly, there is almost no one who doesn’t suit having this look. Even if you have a dark base colour, you can shift your base even ½ a shade brighter to notice a flattering difference. As this is where the sun hits, and where most will naturally have lighter pieces, it gives a very organic and natural finish to the hair. This look is very diverse in the way it uses all different coloured bases. It can be bronzed tones or a darker brown base colour. It’s that glowing from within the hair that gives it the latte look.  The great thing about Latte hair is that it is a universal service for all hair types. Similar to the ‘Glazed skin’ to ‘Glazed hair’ look, the ‘Latte makeup’ to ‘Latte hair’ trend is the new IT girl colour of the season.   What are the different colour Latte shades?  Beige Latte One of the lightest shades of the Latte hair is the beige Latte colour. This colour is more of a neutral toned blonde not too warm and not ashy or cool. It captures that super light blonde look while being super creamy. We like to think of a milk arrowroot biscuit with this colour. Milk Tea Latte In between our beige Latte and Milk chocolate we have the creamy Milk tea Latte colour. When we think of the Milk tea Latte colour we immediately get our inspiration from Bubble tea! This colour is a natural creamy brunette colour that is a mix of warm caramel, milky tones to compliment your complexion giving your hair the ultimate sun kissed glow.  Milk Chocolate Latte The Milk chocolate colour is a lighter option than the deep bronze latte, this is perfect for olive skin tones, especially people with green eyes or brown eyes. This is a super soft shade to maintain so we recommend a touch up glaze every 6-7 weeks to keep your colour at its best! Deep Bronze Latte This is the darker brunette and can be quite universal flattering for both cool and olive skin tones. We take our inspiration from Penelope Cruz in the 90s and Emily Ratajkowski who both rock this colour. This is the richest tone of the Latte hair and we love a sebastien chocolate colourshine every 6 weeks to rich up the base. The colourshines are a great service to achieve the irresistible glaze finish. What Celebrities Have Latte Hair Colour? This viral trend on TikTok has turned the ‘Latte makeup’ into ‘Latte hair’ and everything in between. We believe this is because the trend promotes true healthy hair and healthy colour, which will never go out of style. 2023 is definitely the year of healthy, hydrated hair versus over-styling and chemical processing. Our favourite muse Hailey Bieber has had the Latte hair look and we are OBSESSED. The blended bronzed colour is to die for. Other celebrities who have inspired us while they have been working this hair include Margot Robbie and Khloe Kardashian. How Do I Ask For It? An important note on this hair trend is that Latte hair can mean something different to everyone. To avoid confusion remember to take at least 3 reference photos to your hairstylist. This will help leave no room for error when making the change! It’s important to remember here that this contrast in lightness is different on the screen to real life, so we always opt for a more subtle change first that can then be built on. What products will help me keep my latte hair colour glossy? An absolute MUST when colouring hair to maximise hair health is the hydrating shampoo with Aloe Vera from Christophe Robin. This product is for dehydrated & dull hair. This silky moisture-rich shampoo, composed of 94% natural-origin ingredients, restores the appearance of dry, dull hair and gently cleanses so the scalp feels invigorated and the hair looks luminous and shiny. The Christophe Robin regenerating mask with Prickly pear oil is amazing when dealing with all hair types. This creamy, intensely nourishing mask composed of 97% natural origin ingredients, offers support to dry, damaged or chemically treated hair so it appears not only healthy but rejuvenated and restored giving hair an instantly sumptuous look. The formula works to improve the appearance of split ends so hair feels stronger and silky to the touch with a visible glossy luminosity. When blow drying or styling, Ibiza brushes are our go-to. The B4 65mm blonde boar bristle brush is a must when blow drying or styling. This brush is to volumise hair and is ideal for the crown of the head and medium to long hair. Blonde Boar bristles are ideal for colour-treated hair and fine hair. The blonde bristles give more shine than the black bristles, just a little, but a little goes a long way in the world of hair.   We hope this blog helped you understand everything there is to know about the latte hair colour trend and we hope you feel inspired by it. Double Glazed Hair Colour by Que Colour | Sydney Hair Colour Salon
What is 'Double Glazed Hair Colour' and how do I ask for it?
What is ‘Double Glazed Hair Colour’ and how do I ask for it?  Our senses predict that heading into 2023, the one hair trend that is not going anywhere is Double Glazed Hair Colour. Now is the time to get well acquainted with the term, so we’re going to break down exactly what it is, what hair types work well with a glaze, how it can benefit you and how to ask for it at your hair salon wherever you are in the world.  What does Double Glaze mean?  If you've ever seen a photo of your favourite celebrity/model/influencer's hair and thought “how is it so damn SHINY?” The answer is they probably have regular glosses. The good news? These are accessible, quick treatments that you can find at most hair salons! And the best part is it is an affordable way to get a celebrity-worthy shine. To break it down, the Double Glaze comprises two glossing services back to back. I.e.- a clear gloss over natural hair, a semi-permanent copper colour or demi-permanent copper colour. This is followed by a second gloss (or glaze) at the basin, which gives the hair a shimmering hint of tone to add intense colour reflection and give the hair a filtered look. Where did the Double Glaze Hair Colour come from?  We blame our favourite muse Hailey Bieber for this one. When launching her skincare brand Rhode in mid-2022, Hailey promoted the brand with this idea of “glazed skin” or skin that looks like it's been hit with a clear glaze of sugar… like a donut! 3The skinification of the hair world meant this very quickly turned ‘glazed skin’ into ‘glazed hair’ - glazed nails and everything in between. We believe this is because the trend promotes true hair health, which will never go out of style. This is the era of healthy, hydrated hair versus over-styling and processing.  What hair type is it best for?  The great thing about Double-Glazing is that it is a universal service for all hair types and all hair colours. Of course, there is no denying that rich brunette and darker hair colours will look the most glossy after this service; this is simply due to the way this hair colour reflects light. But never fear! Blonde, copper, auburn, or even platinum hair colour can all see extreme benefits by asking for a double glaze hair service at your hair salon next visit. This is because the ‘glaze’ itself is a custom mix of hues created by your colourist to suit the tone of your hair- no two glazes are the same.  Even if you have 100% natural hair colour, you can have a double glaze by choosing a clear gloss followed by a treatment like a clear colour shine which acts as a topcoat of nail polish for your hair and lasts 4-5 weeks What do I ask for at the hair salon?  The best way to communicate the look you are after to your stylist is by showing them a photo or video reference. Always take at least three photos to show your stylist! Next up, for the glazed hair effect, communicate to them that you would like to do a double hair gloss treatment to lock in, or increase the shine of your hair colour. This can vary depending on which hair salon you visit and which professional haircare they use. Be open to a conversation with your stylist about which products they recommend for your hair type.  Which Glaze Products do we use at Que Colour?  At QUE there are four professional hair products we love to layer on their own or together to create the Double Glazed Hair Colour Look.  SHINEFINITY- Wella Professional  Shinefinity glazes hair with a zero damage, zero lift, zero ammonia, zero silicone and zero drying alcohols formula that’s kind and gentle. This means you can use it on all hair types, whether your client’s hair is fine and fragile or coarse and dry. It’s great news for those who crave colour, but fear split ends and breakage. As well as being suitable for hair in every condition, Shinefinity can be applied to any base colour. It’s not just for virgin hair; you can use it on coloured or pre-lightened locks, too. COLOURTOUCH  - Wella ProfessionalWella Professional the shine and vibrancy of a permanent colour with the low commitment of a demi-permanent colour. All our Color Touch Products are Ammonia Free, low maintenance and provide high shine for stunning results.■ Low commitment, flexible, ammonia-free, multi-faceted hair colour for clients that like to change their hair tone regularly ■ Ideal for fun, creativity, enhancing colour, adding depth and tone COLOURSHINE - Sebastian CellophanesFree from ammonia, alcohol and peroxide, Sebastian Cellophanes are a “hair-friendly” colour gloss. As well as heightening the reflectivity of each strand, Cellophanes strengthen hair preserves natural moisture balance and protects against UV. Now, glossy, translucent colour means stronger, healthier-looking hair.    Shade Variation Treatments - Christophe Robin Christophe Robin’s Shade Variation Masks are pigmented hair masks that provide hair color treatments to neutralise unwanted tones or to enhance your natural hair colour. There are 5 shades to choose from, including Baby Blonde, Chic Copper, Warm Chestnut, Golden Blonde and Ash Brown. The innovative shade variation masks nourish and colour-correct hair in one easy step. Refresh your hair colour at home between salon treatments with a 5–20-minute hair toner mask treatment for luminous hair colour that shines How Long Does the Colour Last?  Like all non-permanent colours, over time the effects of a glazed colour will fade, usually in 4-6 weeks. We recommend booking a glaze every six weeks to keep your hair healthy and gloss looking optimum. A great way to extend this at home is to use the Christophe Robin Shade Variation Pots, as mentioned above, every 1-2 weeks as a deep conditioning treatment. These are easy to use at home in the shower! Simply Shampoo the hair, towel dry and apply from root to tip for 20 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. No need to follow with conditioner; this hair treatment-toner hybrid leaves the hair soft as silk.  We hope this blog helped you understand everything there is to know about the double glaze hair colour trend, how to achieve it and what to ask for if you want the glaze too!
The Butterfly Haircut | Que Colour
The Butterfly Haircut
The Butterfly Haircut - This years hottest haircut trend Whilst the term “butterfly haircut” may seem new, the concept is not. Think: Rachel from friends, Farrah Fawcett and Denise Richards. Each of them donning an iconic decade-defining layered haircut. Fast forward to 2022 and this adaptation could be the most wearable yet.     What is a Butterfly Haircut?  The butterfly haircut gets its name from the incredibly bouncy, voluminous butterfly silhouette that it creates from your hair. This is created from the length of the layers that are cut into the hair. The style has been re-born through TikTok, gaining momentum as it is THE style seen on this generation's IT-girls who have fueled the popularity of a layered haircut. Our favourites include Matilda Djerf, Layered looks gained a bad rap in the early noughties - but this longer version of the layered hairstyle seemingly suits... well… everyone! With endless styling possibilities, and adaptable to both long and shorter hair styles, it can do no wrong in our eyes.   The Timeline of Layered haircuts:  From Farrah to Matilda Djerf- these are some of our favourite butterfly haircuts through history  Who does it suit? As this butterfly haircut relies on the layers starting from below the chin to the shoulder, it is best for those with shoulder length to waist length hair. Your upper top layers should frame the face (face framing layers) and fall above the shoulder as a shorter style would, giving the effect of a cut without the commitment. This way, whenever you whip your hair into a ponytail or throw on a chic turtleneck, you get the full effect of a chic, short chop, and yet can also embrace your hair in its full down-do glory whenever an occasion calls for longer locks. It’s practically a faux bob that allows you the best of both hair worlds. As for the longer layer, it's there to be either tied up or left loose, depending on your desired aesthetic. Unlike many longer hairstyles, however, the butterfly cut will never leave your lengthier sections void of body or movement. Even if you're mostly looking for a way to stop long hair falling flat, it’s a great way to keep length but add volume and shape.   How do I ask for it? As with any hair service, to ensure 100% satisfaction with your hair, bring along 3-4 independently selected pictures or videos with you to show your stylist. This helps to create a benchmark and a creative visual of what you love. It also helps to give us a broader visual of things you maybe don’t like about one style but do about the other. This helps us be realistic about any modifications that you may need to suit your hair in real life, as everyones hair texture and styling preferences are so personal. For example we don’t recommend excessive layering on very fine hair as it can make the ends of the hair look frail, not full. In terms of how to describe it to your stylist, it’s quite simple! Ask for heavy layering with a shorter-face frame which starts NO shorter than the chin. Why? If you’re unclear about this the haircut can easily transform into a shag with a curtain bang, which is slightly different and definitely not what you’re asking for. We suggest re-confirming with your stylist as they are about to cut that face framing piece, exactly where you would like it to be cut. If you’re not 100% sure where, a top tip is to request that the shorter pieces are still long enough to tuck behind your ear. What products do I need to style it? We’re not here to push products at you that you don’t need, so we’ve broken it down to our top 2 hair products which will change the game for you in terms of getting your blowout to hold, last and most importantly leave your hair feeling full and healthy. A Classic Mousse:  Celebrity stylist Larry King has come out with a revolutionary new product reminiscent of your “grandmother's mousse” Called… yep “My Nanna’s Mousse”When you think about it… our grandmas had legendary hair styles which never seemed to drop.. So if the name is anything to go by then we’re off to a great start !  A mousse is perfect for hair that is resistant to holding a blowout. This mousse in particular will help the hair to appear fuller, with a plumping and thickening effect. The hair is left with a soft, bouncy volume and shine. The product helps increase elasticity and provides a product-free feel. Suitable for all hair types. Simply part your hair down the front and pump directly onto the roots. To add through lengths and ends, pump 3-4 into the palm of your hands and then work through the rest of the hair. Style as normal and watch the volume before your eyes! BUY NOW   A Nourishing Hair Serum/ Hair Cream Part of what makes this style so mesmerising is that the hair is incredibly bouncy, lightweight and shiny. Hair that is healthy will always look more buoyant and style with ease, this is why we recommend using a nourishing serum with heat protectant through mid lengths and ends.  Our top pick right now is the brand new Christophe Robin Hydrating Leave in Cream with aloe vera. This silicone-free nourishing formula suits every hair type and doubles as a heat protectant. Not to mention it’s also cruelty free, vegan and suitable for use on damp or dry hair (if you want to use a small amount on your style to finish) Aloe vera and fermented agave juice extract draw moisture to help provide a feeling of hydration while a complex of tung wood and rapeseed oils weightlessly controls frizz and offers heat protection up to 440F (230°C). Sunflower emollient leaves hair beautifully sleek and shiny.   BUY NOW A Good Round Blowdry Brush:  Your brush plays a vital role in the outcome of your blowout. It’s worth investing in high quality tools here as they will last you forever! Our picks: For a Boar Bristle Brush (Suited to fine hair, or for frizzy, coarse hair types)Try the Ibiza B Series  Boar Bristle brushes provide more stretch and tension on the hair, leaving you with ultimate shine. The bristles are more gentle on the scalp and help redistribute natural oils from your scalp and add more shine.   BUY NOW   For a Ceramic Brush (Suited to thick or curly hair types) Try the Ibiza CC Series, These are best to add smoothness and volume, the trick lies in the design of the brush. The metal allows them to hold heat longer which makes them the best choice for changing the shape of your hair, adding shine and eliminating frizz. They will produce a tighter, more defined curl.  BUY NOW To wrap it all up  This is the hottest hair trend of the year and the Que Colour team can't get enough of it. How To Get The IT Girl Hair Colours of 2022
How To Get The IT Girl Hair Colours of 2022
We’re debunking the myth that you can’t be platinum blonde AND have long, healthy hair. Gigi’s done it, so why can’t you ?    Is it possible? Short answer YES Long answer YES ...as long as you have a perfectly honed hair care routine. What’s the first thing you do when purchasing something expensive... You get insurance right? Our hair should be no different. If you’re ready to commit to the hottest colour trend of the season, insure your hair with a routine that will keep your locks hydrated, eliminate damage and deliver moisture, fatty oils and repairing goodness back into your locks. Monique McMahon from Que Colour gives us her top tips below! The prep starts earlier than you think. If this is your first time venturing into the scalp bleach world, ensure you have 100% trust in your chosen colourist and you have worked on a hair colour plan if you are wanting to lift in stages. With your foundations in place, it’s time to get your hair ready at home before the appointment.  If you are already highlighting your hair, now is the time to give it a break for a couple of months and start your masking to prepare your locks for your colourist. Lay off the heat styling until your appointment and ensure you have a nice amount of natural regrowth and a healthy starting point to get you off the mark.  Introduce a Hair mask BEFORE you even begin to bleach We recommend introducing a 100% natural hair and scalp oil like this one from les huilettes to strengthen and repair your scalp to its optimum state. Apply generously to the scalp once a week, massaging into the hair. This is the perfect lazy girl treatment as you can leave it for an hour or overnight before washing out.If there was ever a time to bring in the most luxe, rolls royce of hair masks.. it’s now. Loaded with the rare prickly pear seed oil, omega 6 + 9 and vitamin F- This mask is praised by celebrities, professional colourists and influencers alike as the thing bringing their hair back from the dead. Use once a week for 30 minutes, this ultra concentrated formula can be applied from root to tip and a little goes a long way. Invest in the Christophe Robin Regenerating Mask with Prickly pear, you wont regret it.    I’m blonde- NOW WHAT?  Change your shampoo to a low foaming low PH which will be gentler on your strands and scalp. We suggest the Christophe Robin Colour Shield Shampoo which is packed with camu camu berry oil to nourish your hair and protect against discolouration of your blonde. Alternate your shampoo. We’ve all seen the girl at school who left her purple shampoo in for too long and came in with grey/purple looking hair. Luckily it’s now 2022 and anti collective have launched their every blonde shampoo which is gentle and reparative toning shampoo. The formula is strengthening and sulfate free to gentle cleans and reduce breakage whilst adding luminous shine.  Swap your conditioner for a mask. Bleached hair needs nourishment, hydration and regeneration. These three things come bottled in the colour shield mask by Christophe Robin which is packed with Vitamin E and Vitamin C, what do these do? They protect delicate hair from external aggressors revealing luminous hair and macadamia oil enriches your hair with softness.  Don’t brush when wet. When our hair is wet it is at its weakest state, add being a platinum blonde into the mix and you’re really entering the danger zone. We suggest detangling your hair PRE shower on dry hair with Ibiza hair airwave shower brush which is engineered to effortlessly glide through any hair. Do not brush your hair again until up to 50% dry. Then if you’re styling opt for a blonde boar bristle brush which is designed for lightened hair to gently and naturally smooth frizz, enhance shine and preserve hair integrity.    Copper with no commitment sounds too good to be true, right?   It’s no secret that the IT-GIRLS are driving the rise of the copper hair trend. From the earthy copper tones that Kendall Jenner is rocking to Sydney Sweeneys dip in to a strawberry kiss blonde, we’re all posing the question “would copper suit me?”  The good news is that red hair doesn’t have to come with commitment, if you know what to ask for! So if you’re the kind of person who likes to have flexibility with their hair tone it could be the perfect go-to for you.Monique McMahon at QUE colour is no stranger to the trend, these are her 3 top ways to dabble in all things RED.   If you’re already blonde or have lightness throughout your hair: Opt for the Sydney Sweeney look ask your colourist to use a strawberry glaze toner at the end of your colour service. WELLA colour touch have an amazing range of red/copper tones and add an incredible luminous shine to the hair which will gently fade over 4-55 weeks back to your original hue. If you want a deeper Kendall Jenner Earthy Copper Tone Try out the Sebastien professionals' colourshines to give you that intense punchy red with an unbeatable gloss. These all-natural vegetable protein glosses are deeply pigmented and act like a top coat of nail polish. They only take 10 minutes under heat at the salon and will last for 3-4 weeks before returning to your natural colour.  Not ready to do anything too serious?  For the ultimate “do it yourself” with zero commitment - try the cult Christophe Robin Chic copper Shade Variation. Healthy Hair Starts At The Scalp - Fix your Stressed Scalp and Dry Ends
Healthy Hair Starts At The Scalp - Fix your Stressed Scalp and Dry Ends
This trending thermal mud mask is the latest addition to Christophe Robin’s cult Purifying Routine…yes it’s blue and YES it’s safe to use on all hair types and colours. Why do I need a scalp treatment?  So much of our hair health begins from the scalp. It is here that each hair’s journey begins and so to provide the best environment for your hair to thrive and grow longer and stronger, it’s time to incorporate a detox treatment. As an innovative anti-pollution remedy, Christophe Robin’s Purifying Mask with Thermal Mud draws out impurities, pollution and styling build up in a deeper way than any other product in this cult range. What hair type is this best for ? Anyone and everyone will benefit from this treatment, but we’ve seen the best results on clients who use lots of dry shampoo, hairspray or gels and have a hard time removing build-up week to week. It’s especially great for those of you with very thick hair, who only wash your hair once a week and want to get the most longevity out of your clean hair. It’s incredible the way the scalp feels so clean and free from build-up and excess oils but the hair itself feels smooth and hydrated yet light and bouncy. Applied to dry hair from scalp to tips for 15 minutes, the blue coloured remineralising mask acts as an intensive weekly treatment to leave hair soft, hydrated and soothed. Pure thermal clay and sustainably harvested red algae power up this cooling detox treatment to gently de-stress and revitalize sensitive scalps.   How do I apply the thermal mud mask?  You apply this product onto dry hair in the same way you would apply a clay-based face mask to dry skin. Why? It provides the mask the ideal base to draw out impurities and pollution build up. You can check out our video on application on our instagram here! The thermal mud sits on the scalp allowing the formula to reach the pores and lift product from strands while remineralising the scalp and softening the hair. Remember, this product is not a shampoo and will not lather, so you need to follow it with your regular shampoo after you have rinsed it in the shower. How To Use On Dry Hair: For an intensive detox, smooth generously through dry hair from root to tip, leave on to penetrate for 15 minutes, and rinse thoroughly. Follow with the Purifying Shampoo for a deep cleanse, then the Purifying Detangling Gelée to detangle if needed. Used alternately with Christophe’s cult Purifying scrub, the detoxing weekly routine soothes and treats sensitive, oily or itchy scalps gently and efficiently without disrupting its natural barrier and pH balance. Why is it Blue?  The thermal mud mask is quickly grabbing everyone’s attention with its blue hue . Let’s break down the ingredients that make this highly active formula so special. Key Ingredients Harvested from the Mediterranean coast, the rich mud is highly concentrated in sulphur: a mineral known for its power to rebalance the scalp’s microbiome. The formula features Spirulina, often referred to as the ‘superfood of the sea’ due to its high level of nutrients including Niacinamide. In addition, it harnesses the power of a magnesium-rich Deep Sea Mineral Complex: a pure concentration of deep-sea water from the Irish Sea. Together, they support the effectiveness of the scalp’s barrier function, helping to protect it from pollution and shield against external aggressors for healthier-looking hair and increased moisture content. To take the utmost care of lengths, the formula offers a Deep Sea Red Algae Complex – a sea moss from La Bretagne in France – to smooth cuticles and condition the hair fiber, offering to the scalp a ‘second skin’ effect to retain moisture.
2022 Hair Trends - Colour, Style & Health
2022 Hair Trends - Colour, Style & Health
2022 Hair Trends - Colour, Style & Health We’re super excited to share our TOP 2022 hair trend predictions with you! After the whirlwind of the past two years, it feels like we’re coming in hot for the next 12 months seeing some jaw-dropping inspiration from fashion week, celebrity style and influencers around the globe. Our clients are going for the hair changes they have always wanted to make after spending some quality time researching. It’s time to stop holding back and tell your hairstylist what you REALLY want ! Our top trends come from a combination of what we have heard YOU ask for in our chair at Que colour, what YOU have loved on our social media and what WE have seen go viral. Get ready to deep dive into all things trending hair colour and trending hair styles with us.  Turning to the Dark Side   Let's kick it off with one of our favourite transformations to date. If there was ever a time to embrace your natural hair colour and reap the benefits of an ultra glossy finish, it is now.  For many of our clients, opting to return to their natural roots is equal parts about keeping their hair colour low maintenance as it is to give their hair a break from bleach and give it a change to grow.  When going back back to the dark side it's important to remember: You may get a shock at first! Let's be real, especially if you have been highlighting your hair for years, seeing your hair back at its natural level may give you an initial shock, and some time to get used to. This is completely normal, so prepare yourself mentally and embrace the change! Make sure you keep some variation in your colourThere are many different colouring techniques which can be chosen here to make sure you keep dimension and natural light reflection throughout your colour. For example, check out this colour transformation with our client Lillie, Monique weaved pivot foils on either side of her hairline before applying the semi permanent colour, to keep an eye opening area of lightness which compliments her skin and eye tone.  Hairline Bleaching & Bright Hairlines  We blame TikTok for this one, hairlines are having their moment in the spotlight with so many people enquiring about getting more brightness around the frame of their face! We think it is born from the use of ring lights, which enhance and brighten the areas around your face, making those pieces of hair that frame your face look brighter. The hairline trend is all about recreating that “glow” using a combination of hair colouring techniques that will give you that airbrushed feeling but in real life.  There are a few trending names for this, you may have seen these terms being used “rogue blonde, scandi hairline, money piece” whatever you want to call it, we don’t see this hair trend disappearing any time soon.  So how do you know what to ask for?  An important note on this hair trend is that a “bright hairline” will mean something different to everyone. To avoid confusion (i.e ending up with full-on 90’s stripes at the front) remember to take at least 3 reference photos to your hairstylist. This will help leave no room for error when making the change! It’s important to remember here that this contrast in lightness is different on the screen to real life, so we always opt for a more subtle change first that can then be built on. How do I know if a bright hairline will suit me?  Honestly, there is almost (almost) no one who doesn’t suit having more lightness around the frame of their face. Even if you have a dark base colour, you can shift your hairline even ½ a shade brighter to notice a flattering difference. As this is where the sun hits, and where most will naturally will have lighter pieces, it gives a very organic and natural finish to the hair. HOT TIP:  Damage wise, if you are very blonde then you already know that the front of your hair is already most susceptible to breakage so you will need to make sure that you invest in some TLC for your hair. A great hydrating mask or leave in plex treatment is sure to do the trick to help maintain overall hair health. Natural Hair Colour, Embracing The Gray  The last two years of lockdowns have meant regrowth galore and for a lot of people, it pushed them past that “awkward” stage which normally prompts you to come back to the salon every 4-5 weeks. We have had a lot of clients come in, ready to transition to embrace their natural greys and we LOVE IT. Low maintenance, inherently chic, and absolutely trending. Now when we say embrace the grey it’s all about using colour to enhance your grey or soften the grow out line of the colour. Bring out those grey temple areas with soft shimmer foils, using colour in scattered foils for the rest of the hair to make sure you're keeping natural dimension to the new look. What to remember: Manage your expectations. If you have been tinting or colouring your hair for the last 10+ years, it may take more than one session to achieve an all over even grey hair colour which matches your natural roots. Be open and honest with your colourist and listen to their advice to get you on a fool-proof colour plan.  Need some colour inspo? Look no further than Australian model Rachel Waller who is redefining beauty with her incredible grey locks!    Slick Hair Buns & Sleek Ponytail styling   Get the hair gel out of the back of your beauty cupboard because it’s time to slick it back.   Good news for us lazy hair do-ers, the slick hair silhouette is dominating the beauty world right now, with many calling it “the clean girl” trend.  Led by the likes of Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Zendaya, not only is this look surprisingly easy to replicate, but a great way to disguise greasy roots or just a bad hair day. Rather than battling with a hair straightener to smooth it out, opt for a 2000’s inspired super slick bun or pony with a couple of pieces left out at the front to frame your face.  Not only does a sleek pulled back hairstyle look put-together and timeless, it’s also a saving grace for the health of your hair as you can give it a welcome break from heat styling.  The Sleek High Ponytail  Like an instant face lift you can’t go past a classic high pony. Look no further than one of our favourite celebrity stylists Chris Appleton’s latest tutorial which shows how you can use hair extensions to elevate your high pony.  The Sleek Bun Classy and elegant, the sleek bun is your go to for when your hair has really reached the point of no return. The plus side to a bun over a ponytail is that you can apply a hair mask or hair moisturizer all over, comb it through and leave it in all day long to reap the benefits ! We’re going to link another Chris Appleton tutorial (yes, we’re obsessed) as he is the master mind behind THAT bella hadid bun we’re always trying to recreate. What Product To Use For Sleek Ponytail  Make sure you have a good quality hair clay/gel to get the look started, we love this one from ANTI A hydrating treatment which you can apply to your lengths, for when you slick it all the way back if you choose to. This brand new hair serum from les huilettes is 100% natural and works wonders with its botanical blend of essential and vegetable oils  A Boar bristle brush like this one from IBIZA hair tools, to get a good grip on stray hairs and give you that flat polished look A flexible hold hair spray for any stray hairs, spray this lightly onto your...(see below)  An eyebrow spoolie or hair toothbrush for the last few fly aways to complete the look  Heatless Hair Styling: Air Dry Natural Hair  Spend less time heat styling, more time living life. The air drying phenomenon isn’t new, however, it is making a big impact on restoring hair to its optimum health by giving it a breather from the hot styling tools, heatless hair styling will not only save on time, but save your hair from damage, promoting longer lasting colour, longer growing hair, and stronger healthier locks.  There are a few different ways you can embrace this trend. If you have bangs or face framing layers, a hot tip is to blow dry just the fringe of your hair while you let the rest dry naturally, or tie the rest back in a high pony. This automatically gives a polished look without the effort.  You can try out the viral “heatless hair kits”  which we have seen so many influential people using-  by wrapping your damp hair around a curling ribbon and tying it together whilst you sleep (or finish getting ready) these kits give you curler results without the 200 degree celsius heat. Check out this heatless bathrobe curls video from one of our favourite hair guru’s Negin Mirsalehi. If these don’t suit you, simply wash and wear! Be sure to stock up on natural origin ingredient leave- in products. Why natural origin? We deep dived into the harm silicones can cause on our curly hair care blog. Our top leave in products are:  Luscious Curls Defining Cream by Christophe Robin Everything Cream by Anti Apply to damp hair after shampooing and conditioning and really push the products into the hair cuticle and let it do it’s magic.  Healthy Hair Colour Our personal favourite, most timeless trend of them all. Healthy hair will never go out of fashion, but what does healthy colour really mean?  To us, healthy colour is a combination of three key elements. It’s when a client's home hair care routine, colourist and stylist work together in harmony and magic happens. It's no secret that healthy colour will always look shinier, glossier, and hold style better than the latter. Want to achieve it? It’s easier than you think! How to Keep Coloured Hair Healthy? First things first, make sure your colourist is on the same page as you and knows that hair health is your number one concern. Once this has been communicated to your stylist, you should start to see results almost immediately, as you work together towards your healthy hair goal. Then the home hair care comes in. The key to maintaining healthy colour and boosting hair health is in your routine at home. We did the hard work for you with a definitive list of the best hair care products for each hair concern in our previous blog. Be sure to check it out if you’re having trouble finding the right products for you.
Curly Hair Products by Christophe Robin
Curly Hair Products You Need This Summer!
It’s no secret that healthy curls require a little extra love, care and the right combination of curly hair products. Finding the right product is harder than it sounds, this is where we come in! We’ve done the hard work for you. Introducing the NEW Christophe Robin  Luscious Curls Collection. We were beside ourselves with excitement when this new line dedicated to our curly girls launched. Why? Christophe Robin, is an award-winning luxury French hair brand dedicated to unique, highly active natural formulas. Loved by celebrities and hairstylists around the world for the way they improve hair and scalp health. Christophe Robin proudly formulates products without silicones, parabens, sulfates- aka- curly hair heaven! If you didn't know already, these ingredients can wreak havoc on natural curls, read more about that in our Curly Hair Care blog. So what’s  in the formula of these beautiful curly hair products? A unique blend of superfood ingredients including Kokum Butter, Chia Seed Oil, Flaxseed Milk and Jojoba oils. These natural powerhouses combined are guaranteed to leave your hair silky smooth, frizz free, defined and nourished. Not convinced? Did we mention the Luscious Curl collection launches with an enviable fragrance which infuses hair with a subtle scent featuring delicate notes of Bergamot, White Jasmine, Ylan-Ylang and Velvet Musk? The scent, designed specifically for this range is sure to make you add to cart! Alright, let’s get into it, breaking down the 4 products in this range into 2 routines depending on the tightness of your curl to make it easy to navigate. For Wavy/Lightly Coiled Hair Types The Luscious Curl Cleansing Conditioner is an innovative formula, think of it as a hybrid between a shampoo + conditioner. The ingredients include silky chia seed oil which is rich in Omega 3 and 6 to boost gloss and add shine. Nigella seed oil works to smooth and tame the hair. Shea butter deeply nourishes and softens to make combing through super easy!  Application Tips  Simply apply like your regular shampoo, working from roots to lengths and lightly emulsifying the product at your roots. Rather than rinsing immediately as you would with a regular shampoo,  leave this product in for about 2 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.   The Luscious Curl Defining Cream with chia seed oil:  sleek lightweight cream which is perfect on wet hair before styling and on dry hair when you’re in need of some anti frizz. It’s lightweight so you don’t get the dreaded “crunch” or “oil slick” vibes. Nigella Seed oil leaves the hair ultra soft while protein-rich flaxseed milk helps to define curls and tame frizz for weightless natural curls . Application Tips Firstly, as with any product application for curls, it is essential that you do not towel dry your hair, especially not with a cotton towel! We know it looks chic twisted in a towel turban but this is a massive no no if you’re wanting to eliminate frizz. Experts recommend using an old t-shirt or microfibre hair towel if you must use one. To start with, take a 20 cent piece of the cream between your palms and work them together. Distributing the product on your hands like this helps for even distribution through your curls. Apply to damp hair working from root to tip and pay attention to your hairline. Now it’s time to style! You can Blow-dry using a diffuser or air-dry. For even bouncier curls, apply to dry hair as a touch up.   For Tightly Coiled Curly Hair Types The Luscious Curl Cleansing Balm with Kokum Butter: Just like a cleansing balm is perfect for sensitive skin, this low foaming cleanser is designed to detangle and condition super dry/brittle fine hair. Leaving a really moisturised finish. The formula works to nurture the hair and transforms into a milky lather as it washes the hair. The hero ingredient here is kokum butter. It works with silky chia seed oil to boost glossy shine with their naturally occurring Omega 6 and 9. Also, Jojoba and Sunflower Seed Oil to enhance your natural curly hair shape and definition.    Application Tips This will not foam like your regular shampoo does. So don’t expect a massive bubble! instead it will coat and gently cleanse the hair so make sure your hair is thoroughly wet before applying.  Massage through the hair root to tip and slightly lather, you do not need to follow this with a conditioner!      The Luscious Curl Defining Butter with Kokum Butter: The defining butter is richer than the defining cream. This is because Kokum Butter is the hero ingredient here, not only does it strengthen your hair from the roots, it also won’t clog pores. It’s super moisturising so prevents hair damage and breakage without the oily feeling. Protein rich flaxseed milk will help to define the hair for a frizz free finish.  Application Tips:  Apply on very wet damp hair in a raking motion to distribute the product evenly. This will detangle your curls and give you a good foundation for styling. Now you can scrunch (if this is a method you like) from the ends of your hair to press excess product into the ends. Once dry, you can twist any sections that look unruly individually around your fingers with a little more product to help define them for the perfect anti frizz finish!   How To Make Curls Last Longer? To get the most from your freshly washed hair and extend time between washes, our ultimate must-know hacks are Skip the hairbrush. Seriously, just don’t pick it up. Especially when your hair is dry! If you need to, use a wide-toothed comb or your fingers. Sleep on Silk or Satin. The silk pillowcase trend was big for a reason... It works. Whilst you sleep, tossing and turning creates friction between our hair and the pillow causing tangles, split ends and breakage. Silk pillowcases dramatically reduce this friction by helping your hair to retain moisture.  With curly hair the main point here we’re trying to hone in is moisture is key. So wherever you can lock that moisture in is a win!  Stretch out wash times by opting for a trending wet look (achieved by applying more defining butter through the hair). OR tied back in a super sleek bun using the defining cream with face framing areas left out!   To shop the full curl product collection head here:
Curly Hair Care - Blonde Girl with Curly Hair
Curly Hair Care - The 411 on Products & Tips
Want nourished, moisturised, frizz free curls? Look no further…  Anyone who has curly hair knows how hard it can be to find curly hair products that make your defined curls look their best, not flat, frizzy, weighed down or fluffy. With so many different curly hair products on the market , it can be hard to find the best product for your curly hair type.   The much anticipated launch of Christophe Robin new Luscious Curls range has us thinking all things curls. We’ve pulled together your most asked CURL-Q’s to provide some insight on how to improve your hair strength, hair shine and help you love your defined curls even more! Why is my curly hair frizzy?  Natural curls, waves and coils require special attention. Due to the hair’s natural shape, curls tend to be more fragile and much drier than straight hair as it’s harder for sebum to fully penetrate the lengths and ends of the hair. The tighter the curl pattern, the more challenging it is for oils to travel down the hair shaft. As a result, the cuticles stay open and lack nutrition, leaving hair porous dry and curls can become unstructured and frizzy.   This is why natural curls commonly crave moisture and nutrition!    What hair products should I avoid for my curly hair?  In haircare, there are some ingredients we call "Curl-Killers". These are common and often found in Shampoo and Conditioner.   Curl killers include Parabens, Sulphates and the mortal enemy… Silicones. Silicone-based products wreak havoc on curly hair, as the product sits on top of the hair and stops moisture from entering the follicle. This makes them a big NO for any hair type, but especially curls who need that extra hydration.   Thicker silicones, such as dimethicones, which are often found in leave-in treatments and serums, can build up along the hair cuticle over time like a film and require clarifying shampoos for removal, which can leave your hair feeling weighed down and dull because the silicone coating attracts debris and dirt.  How to look out for silicones Firstly check to see if there are any features on the product which say “silicone free” if it isn’t obvious check the ingredients! Yes these words are a mouthful, but once you know what to look for you won’t make the same mistake twice!   Cetyl Dimethicone Dimethicone Cetearyl Methicone Trimethylsilylamodimethicone Amodimethicone  The shift to silicone free products may take a few washes to get used to as you remove existing build up, but believe us when we say that once you are silicone free you won't look back! What are the best hair care products for curly hair?  With curly hair, you’ll always want to focus on products that help add moisture to the hair and avoid any hair products that are going to result in dry hair or weigh your hair down.  Wavy/ light curly hair will often have a relaxed ‘s'’ shape or beach wave pattern. For this hair type, heavy products can weigh down and straighten natural curls. For this hair type the best go-to is products that have a lightweight hydration, enhance curl and tame frizz.   Very Curly to Coil hair has a tight corkscrew-like or ‘Z’ shaped zig zag curl pattern, These types of curls are usually thin and fragile and can be unruly/more susceptible to breakage. Tight and curly coils need deep hydration for maximum softness and strength.  Is shampoo good or bad for curly hair care? If we’re getting real with you, every person's curls are SO unique that it really comes down to what works best for your hair type. From a professional point of view, it is beneficial to cleanse your hair at least once a week. This is essential to scalp health and to remove build up of existing products on the hair!  Now for the exciting part... Christophe Robin has just launched the ultimate curl cleansing conditioner. This hybrid curl cleanser/ curl nourisher gives very curly to coily hair the nourishment it needs to thrive. The Magic Formula is generous and rich, inspired by skincare. The non lathering balm instantly cleanses and offers deep condition nourishment, definition and manageability to curls, and coils.  - Silky chia seed oil, rich in omega 3 & 6, boosts glossy shine  - Sustainably sourced nigella seed oil smooths strands to tame frizz  - A highly nourishing yet lightweight shea butter emollient softens and eases combing     How do I use a conditioning cleanser? Simply use it like a shampoo – no additional conditioner needed. Apply onto damp hair, working it in from root to tip to cleanse and lather slightly enveloping it in decadent moisture. The thirst-quenching formula transforms into a milky lather as it washes, detangles and conditions so even the driest, most brittle curls feel nourished and defined with a manageable, shiny finish.  Comb through the lengths to detangle before rinsing thoroughly! Blow drying & styling curly hair First things first, before you even touch your blow drier or heat styling tools, to detangle and comb your curly hair make sure you use care and use seamless, snag-free combs. Start from the bottom to detangle easily whilst you still have wet hair. Invest in the best possible quality you can find, we love the rose scented detangling comb by Ibiza Hair Tools which is;  Highly flexible to glide effortlessly through the hair  Naturally anti-microbial  Salon quality design and construction Now for the styling... Most curly girls will say no heat at all ! It's true, heat is the first thing to dry out and stress your curls. This doesn't mean that you can't have fun with styling or need a little help every now and then to amplify your natural wave.  Blow dryers are normally seen as a curly girl's enemy- but have you heard of the diffuser? It's your new BFF! What is a hair diffuser? A diffuser is an attachment for your hairdryer which works by spreading the airstream over a wider area in a more controlled way. Diffusers are great for those with curly to wavy hair types as it helps to maintain the natural curl pattern whilst also reducing heat damage. To avoid frizz, let your hair air dry as long as possible, then finish the styling by clicking a diffuser attachment onto your hairdryer. Flick the heat setting to medium and tip your head upside down, placing the diffuser upwards towards the scalp hold it until that section is around 90% dry, continuing doing this in sections, moving the head around until dry. We hope this answered some of your curly hair questions!  Remember, every hair type is unique so do what works for you!
Blonde hairdresser Sydney: Colour Specialist
Blonde hairdresser Sydney: Colour Specialist
As a leading colour salon and one of the most renowned blonde hairdressers in Sydney, we talk you through our most popular blonde services and why you can trust your blonde hair with the Que Colour team. Get ready to take your hair colour to the next level.  Blonde Foils - “The Classic Blonde” Blonde foils were left with a bad reputation after the dreaded late 90’s/ 2000’s leaving us with images of stripey black and yellow looking hair (thanks Christina Aguilera!). But this isn’t an accurate representation of what the foil technique achieves. The result you are left with is all down to expert placement, fine weaves, consistent colour, and an amazing colourist. This is why the Que Colour team are all trained by Monique McMahon under her “Foil Like A Boss” program which is renowned worldwide. At Que Colour, blonde foils is still our go-to technique for day-to-day clients. Why? Because the art of foiling allows you to lift colour to a much higher level than balayage clay powder. Balayage Clay powder is a different product to your standard blondor powder which is used in foils The colour is placed into a foil, which keeps the lightener from getting on the surrounding hair, which means that foiling is a more controlled process. The foil also traps heat, allowing the lightener to lift more effectively. Then there’s tint foiling, which is when we use a permanent tint colour instead of a bleach to achieve the desired colour. We often mix a blend of tint with bleach especially if we are trying to achieve a golden and glowing 70’s blonde. Tint foils are also a great option when you are trying to reduce damage on the hair and can leave the hair looking even glossier than it did pre-colour. Hand painting - “The Cool Girl”  Balayage, Hand Painting, Freehand... Whatever you like to call it, hand painting is the method of sweeping colour onto the hair for a natural looking finish. For a deeper understanding of blonde balayage take a look at our blonde balayage article.  When Que Colour first opened its doors we were a colour only salon. To this day the balayage services that our team of colourists offer are world class and only found in a handful of blonde hairdresser Sydney Salons. Hand painted blonde is the colour to ask for if you love a low maintenance colour which looks expensive. Hand painting will incorporate your natural colour into the finished result. Hand painted blondes will pop around your face and grow out seamlessly. Hand painted colour is the kind of hair colour you look at and think… is it natural? Book an appointment with one of our outstanding colourist at Que Colour and have people asking that about your hair! Freestyle Colour - “The Signature Que Colour Girl Colour”  Freestyle Colour is a colouring technique developed by Que Colour founder Monique McMahon which combines the two blonde techniques we have just talked about. That’s right- we combine foils with hand painting to create the ultimate “instagram blonde hair”. It's not uncommon for our clients to bring in photos of a model's hair from social media which may have extensions in or perhaps has been photoshopped. For us, to recreate these perfect colours we need to combine all our techniques into one to achieve the ultimate dream hair for our clients. This can sometimes involve anywhere from 3-6 different colour formulas on the same head of hair!  Scandi Hairline - “The Rogue Blonde”  We couldn’t talk about blonde hair colours without talking about the famous “Scandi Hairline”. Two years ago whilst doing a photoshoot campaign for Que colour salon, we needed to recreate the look of a super bleached hairline. To achieve the look we were after, we decided to simply... bleach the hairline! We posted a video of our team applying the bleach and it took off over social media and became our most asked for add on service. The scandi hairline is added on to a full head of blonde foils service. After we have rinsed your foils out at the basin, we comb forward your hairline 1-2 centimeters deep and then apply bleach onto the root area of the freshly highlighted hairline. The colour is left on for between 5-10 minutes and watched closely as it lifts. The result is, the sort of blonde you would see after a summer of surfing in the ocean, when your hairline is naturally bleached! If you’re a blonde and you haven’t tried this yet, just ask when booking your next appointment.
Blonde Balayage by Sydney Balayage Specialist Que Colour
Blonde Balayage, everything you need to know from a colour specialist salon in Sydney
Blonde Balayage is THE low maintenance colour to ask for, which won't compromise on quality. QUE has been a blonde balayage salon for the past 10 years, and we're STILL as obsessed with it now as the day we opened. Read on to find out why! Why is Que Colour a blonde balayage specialist salon?  Balayage is the hair trend that changed the way colourists worked forever. Founder of Que Colour, Monique McMahon can be considered a queen of all things hand painting, balayage and freehand application from her years of training in Europe and her master colourist certification. Born in France, balayage began as a secret of celebrities, who only trusted the best colourists in Europe to paint their hair. This is where Monique travelled to train in Paris with the iconic hair colourist Christophe Robin who looked after the likes of blondies Kylie Minogue and Claudia Schiffer  “In his Paris salons, they use hand painting rather than foils; that’s where I get a lot of my inspiration. I draw a lot of my motivation from him and his team; healthy hair is very important for them (and the French in general) and they have so much access to hair powders, brands and utensils. Being in Europe itself; just walking the streets there… I can never describe that feeling I get when I am in Europe”  Monique has passed on her balayage techniques with the QUE team over the last 10 years, with the increasing popularity of blonde balayage, it is now one of our most highly requested looks from our clientele.  What does blonde balayage look like? You know that colour you had as a child when you had never touched your hair and wished for your old colour back? That’s the sort of result that balayage can give you. For people with naturally light blonde or mousy brown hair, balayage will make it look naturally kissed by the sun. The exact tone is then up to you as once your colour is rinsed you can finish off the look with the tone you desire. Whether that be a honey blonde, creamy blonde or strawberry blonde. Blonde Balayage travels from the roots seamlessly and often includes a halo around the face for the most natural looking dimension. How long does balayage last? Balayage lasts a lot longer than your standard foil colour or regrowth application. This is because the lightener is swept onto the hair leaving a much softer grow out line at the roots. This is great news if you love low maintenance colours. Some clients we will see every 12 weeks for a touch up, some only every 6 months for upkeep. As long as you have a great home hair care routine this is all you need!  Can you do balayage on short hair? Whilst it’s more common on Instagram to see balayage on super long hair, balayage is one of our favourite techniques for EVERY hair type. Whether that be curly, short or even a razor sharp bob. If you are thinking about moving from foils to balayage and have shorter hair it is definitely worth investing in a balayage specialist colourist. It takes a more precise sectioning and application technique to give you the best natural result.   What’s trending next in Blonde Balayage?  Coming out of winter (and lockdown) in Sydney I am definitely expecting there to be a shift in Blonde Balayage trends and popularity. To transition from a foiled blonde to a balayage blonde you often need a good amount of regrowth (4-6 months) to work with and some clients can’t wait that long normally. This will now be the PERFECT time to transition to a more natural blonde if you have been thinking about it!  Our balayage salon process Step 1: Consultation  Before your colour appointment, we go over no less than 3 photos with clients to determine exactly the end result they are after and what is achievable realistically for them. Step 2: The Appointment Once the colour process begins, sections of the hair are painted with clay lightener and we often separate each section with plastic wrap or cotton wool, instead of foils. We use pre cut plastic wrap to keep the lightner from drying out. Once the colour is processed, we then head to the basin and apply a toner if needed or a treatment to finish the hair.   Step 3: The After-care  Crucial to any good hair colour is your at home haircare routine to make sure you get the most out of your new hue! We always recommend a sulphate and silicone free shampoo/conditioner to ensure the colour pigment and toner doesn't escape.
