Hair Colour Shampoo VS Hair Colour Treatments: We break it down for you!

Written By Team Que 19 Nov 2020

What is best when it comes to saving your hair colour from fading ? We know it can be overwhelming when your hairdresser recommends a million products, so we have broken down what you really need and why when your number 1 mission is maintaining the tone of your colour for longer.

Hair Colour Shampoo VS Hair Colour Treatments: We break it down for you!

HOW DOES HAIR COLOUR SHAMPOO WORK?

Whilst all hair colour will fade eventually, a colour safe shampoo can slow down the process. They're much gentler than your typical shampoo as they are formulated without harsh sulfates/detergents. These are the two main ingredients found in shampoo which create that super foaming lather, which whilst making your hair feel clean can be pretty aggressive on your new hair colour! Our favourite? The Colour Shield Shampoo + Mask by Christophe Robin!

HOW DOES A HAIR COLOUR MASK WORK

Hair colour depositing conditioners are used to temporarily colour your hair with natural hues of colour. They use small amounts of colour pigment that sit on the cuticle of your hair. There is a difference in what is out there though! Be careful to choose colour treatments without ammonia or peroxides.
The hair colour masks we love most (and are super safe for home use) are those with natural ingredients like cocoa powder, carrot oils, or blackberry extract to deposit the colour pigments. These are the absolute best way to get a deluxe treatment and toner at home.
Below is the world-famous Baby Blonde Treatment! Not just for white blondes, this mask is amazing for anyone with highlights in their hair who want to say goodbye to excess brass! The completely unique treatment draws natural pigment from the iris flower to give its purple tone.
What does this mean exactly ? It will ensure your colour doesn't over tone and go that weird shade of purple/silver that sometimes happens !

OUR VERDICT

When it comes down to it what's better to invest in? To be perfectly honest, the best way to enhance or control your colour at home is with a hair colour conditioner. As hair dye shampoos are just that: dye with no conditioning agents or healthy benefits for the hair.
When you use a hair colour conditioner or hair colour mask you're feeding the hair at the same time as depositing colour. Simply choose which shade is best for you, apply on towel dried hair and let it sit anywhere from 5 minutes - 30 minutes (depending on how intense you want the result to be)
So get masking!!! You will feel the benefits on the health and vibrancy of your colour instantly!
